The IGSA 14U Championship game between Coach Hal Libben’s Green Gangstaz and Coach Darrell Ennis’ Scarlet Fever was a thriller for all involved. Both teams played well and with intensity. In the end, the Gangstaz edged out the Fever in the first tie-breaker inning by one run. Congratulations to both teams for a great game!

Both teams made outstanding plays throughout the game. Carissa of the Fever made a great over-the-shoulder catch at third to end an inning. Taylor of the Gangstaz tracked down a fly ball well-hit by Darian to center field and made a running catch to shut down a Fever scoring opportunity. The Gangstaz’ McKenna backed up a ground ball at second and hustled to beat the runner to first to end the sixth inning. Larisa pitched seven strong innings for the Fever while Sarah and Kali shared pitching duties for the Gangstaz. Angela played solid defense catching for the Gangstaz. Angela was a key differentiator defensively that kept the Fever scoreless for several innings.

The Gangstaz jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, but the Fever were not to be denied and worked their way to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning.

The top of the tie-breaker inning saw the Gangstaz hold the Fever scoreless with solid defense. The Gangstaz had the top of the line-up in their half of the inning. Kali started at second and Sarah moved her to third with a sharp grounder to short, which was well-played by Cyndi for the first Gangstaz out. Chelsee then stepped up to the plate and drove a long fly ball to right center that fell in and scored Kali to win the game, 10-9.

The Gangstaz roster includes: Daniela, Angela, Isabel, Kali, Taylor, Madison, Sarah, McKenna, Chelsee, Selma, Jordan, coaches Hal, Catarino, Gil, and Paul, and Team Mom Nichelle.
