All girls ages 4.5 to 14 years old are eligible to play in the Spring. The Spring season is a time for girls to learn more skills, learn life lessons and make new friendships that will last a lifetime. Registration is done online via our website and to participate in any season of play with IGSA, families must be in good financial standing with the league.

Registration for the Spring season begins in October and runs through December. Teams are formed in January. Practices begin in early February and games begin typically in early March.

The upper divisions (10u, 12u, 14u) start the year with an on-field evaluation in early January. All girls go through the evaluation process, which allows the league to rate the girls’ skill level. These evaluations allow for teams to be evenly drafted by our coaches. Every girl who registered will be placed on a team. The drafting of teams takes place in late January and the coaches will contact their teams shortly thereafter.

The 8u division will have a Player and Pitcher Evaluation to ensure each team has an adequate number of pitchers and that the overall talent is evenly distributed throughout the teams. Attention will be paid to buddy requests and coach requests, but having the most fair and overall competitive age group will be the driving factor.

The 6u division is grouped geographically, by buddy request and by coach request. We try as much as possible to allow the girls to play with their friends in 6u. The teams are formed in mid-January and the coaches begin contacting their players thereafter.
Practices for all divisions begin in early February at local fields across Irvine. In the 6u and 8u divisions, on-field practices will be once a week. The 8u division may also have one additional batting cage practice. The 10u, 12u, and 14u divisions have one on-field practice and one batting cage practice per week. The on-field practices can take place at any field across Irvine and the batting cages are located in the parking lot outside the Stadium at Colonel Bill Barber Park.

Games for all divisions begin on Opening Day, which typically occurs the last Saturday of February, but can vary. The 6u teams play one game per week on Saturdays. The 8u teams play one game on Saturday and an additional game one weeknight starting mid-season. The 10u, 12u, and 14u all play one game on Saturday and another game one weeknight. The day each division plays is set when the final schedule is released in February. The 14u teams play in a county-wide league and will require travel to other cities. The length of the game in each division can vary from week-to-week.

The season kicks off with our Opening Day Celebration at Colonel Bill Barber Park. The Opening Day Ceremony takes place in the Stadium at Bill Barber Park and kicks off with the parade of teams into the stadium culminating with a rainbow of team colors around the outfield grass. It is always a great picture moment. Team pictures are scheduled throughout the day as well as games on the various fields after the Opening Ceremony.

The spring season draws to a close in mid-May. The 6u division play their final games and the 8u divisions have a showcase. The 10u and 12u divisions square off in season-ending championship tournaments. The 14u division take part in the Orange County Bragger’s Tournament.
